Job Summary: The Forming Technician supports the production and manufacturing of signs by setting up and operating machines used to form signs and components from flat plastic sheets. This role involves measuring and cutting raw materials, operating machinery, and ensuring proper equipment functionality while maintaining high-quality production standards.

Responsibilities

  • Measure and cut raw materials with precision using power saws and other tools.
  • Load materials into forming machines, set timers, and operate controls to initiate processes.
  • Monitor machine operations, control boards, and gauges to detect and address malfunctions such as clogged bushings or defective components.
  • Adjust machine controls to ensure proper forming processes and quality output.
  • Record details of machine malfunctions and notify appropriate personnel for adjustments or repairs.
  • Stop machines as needed to address malfunctions or complete production processes.
  • Clean and maintain forming machines using hand tools and ensure tools are in proper working condition.
  • Collaborate with team members to address defects, troubleshoot issues, and improve processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in the sign industry is a plus but not required.
  • Basic carpentry skills with the ability to make accurate and square cuts.
  • Understanding of basic math for precise measurements and calculations.
  • Familiarity with power tools and machine operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to document and report issues.
  • High attention to detail to ensure quality and accuracy in production.
  • Physical ability to handle large, bulky materials in a heated environment.
  • Willingness to learn skilled trade techniques, including building molds and forming plastic.
  • Frequent use of hands to handle, manipulate, or feel tools, objects, or controls.
  • Regular walking, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move 50-80+ lbs, with assistance from lifting equipment as needed.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Comfortable working in a heated environment during forming processes.
