Overview

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Database Analyst to manage and optimize our database systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL, with a strong background in database design, performance optimization, and data warehousing. Experience with Oracle databases is a plus. This role is essential for ensuring the efficiency, security, and integrity of our data infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Database Design & Architecture

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust database systems.
  • Design and optimize database schemas to support business requirements.
  • Ensure proper data modeling, normalization, and indexing strategies.
  • Applying best practices for data protection and system availability – including but not limited to replication and high-availability configurations.

Performance Optimization

  • Monitor and fine-tune database performance for both transactional and analytical systems.
  • Conduct regular performance assessments and implement improvements.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues including query optimization, indexing, and resource contention.

System Administration & Maintenance

  • Perform regular database backups, restorations, and disaster recovery operations.
  • Implement security measures to safeguard data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Maintain database software, including applying patches and updates.

 

Cloud & Data Warehouse Management

  • Manage and optimize cloud-based database environments on Azure SQL.
  • Leverage data warehouse solutions to support business intelligence and reporting needs.
  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of scalable data warehousing solutions.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work closely with developers, system administrators, business analysts, data analysts and key stakeholders from the business to meet data requirements.
  • Document database designs, processes, and operational procedures.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members regarding database-related issues.

Qualifications

Education, experience, certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications in relevant database technologies (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are an advantage.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of database security practices and disaster recovery planning.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proven expertise in database design, performance tuning, and query optimization.
