Job Summary: The Product Buyer is responsible for planning, negotiating, and purchasing finished products from approved vendors. This role ensures that all purchase orders are processed accurately and on time, contributing to efficient production and effective cost management.

The salary range for this position is $53,000 to $65,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Review production orders and generate purchase orders (POs) with approved suppliers.
  • Enter all required PO data into the ERP system and promptly forward information to suppliers.
  • Expedite POs to ensure on-time delivery of materials.
  • Verify supplier acknowledgments against purchase orders to ensure all details are accurate.
  • Request quotations from suppliers, provide detailed product specifications, and refer information to the appropriate parties.
  • Prepare estimates for RFP projects and negotiate with vendors to secure the best pricing.
  • Evaluate product pricing and availability, placing emergency orders when necessary.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve issues with non-compliant products.
  • Generate debit memos and resolve invoice discrepancies in coordination with suppliers.
  • Produce and distribute standard and ad hoc reports as required by management.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with vendors to stay informed about new products and updated costs.
  • Coordinate with various company departments to share information, resolve issues, and build collaborative relationships.

Qualifications

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient with common office equipment, including personal computers, calculators, and data entry terminals.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; ability to work with basic statistics and statistical reporting.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; English fluency is required.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting or related field
  • Three to five years of experience in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Business, or Materials Management, with hands-on experience in ERP systems.

Physical and mental demands

  • This position is based in a general office setting, with typical demands including prolonged sitting, standing, typing, and occasional lifting of packages (less than 25 pounds).

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based, with regular visits to a light manufacturing environment to interact with employees and/or supervisors.
